Navigo recently had the incredible pleasure of organizing an 8-day international sports tour to Italy with the Texas Lutheran Softball team. From the historic streets of Rome to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, this journey was a whirlwind of cultural immersion, softball action, and unforgettable memories.

The team wasted no time diving into the heart of Italy. A guided walking tour of Rome, starting at the enchanting Piazza Navona, was the perfect way to kick off the trip. The Colosseum and Roman Forum were next on the agenda. Walking in the footsteps of gladiators and emperors, the team couldn’t help but appreciate the awe-inspiring architecture and historical significance of these ancient sites. The team also explored the Vatican Museums, marveled at the Sistine Chapel’s exquisite artistry, and stood in awe of the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica. 

On the fourth day of our Italy trip, after a little free time for shopping and exploring, it was time for some on-field action. An exhibition game against Nettuno Softball (Serie A2) showcased international softball talent. The day culminated with a heartwarming group dinner with the Nettuno Softball team, creating lasting bonds through sport and camaraderie.

Saying arrivederci to Rome, the squad hopped on a ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi. The picturesque Amalfi Coast provided a mesmerizing backdrop for a visit to the charming town. The team also enjoyed some well-deserved free time to bask in the Italian sun and savor the small beaches along the coastline before heading to the next spot on their map: Naples.

Day 6 kicked off with a guided walking tour of Naples, where the team soaked in the rich Neapolitan culture. The day took an inspiring turn as the Texas Lutheran Softball players hosted a youth softball clinic for children from the Caserta region, showcasing their skills and passion for the game. The fun continued with an intrasquad scrimmage against Caserta Softball, and a post game group dinner with the Caserta youth players and their families, creating connections across cultures.

The following evening, a special farewell dinner in Rome brought the tour to a conclusion. Reflecting on their journey, the players and coaches shared stories and laughter, savoring the friendships formed during their time in Italy. With hearts full of unforgettable memories, the Texas Lutheran Softball team departed Italy for their journey back to Texas. Their bags may have been packed, but the experiences and bonds forged during this remarkable tour will forever remain with them.

This adventure was a testament to the power of sport, cultural exploration, and the wonderful world of travel.
